How do you fix the warning sounds on a 1998 Dodge Avenger it no longer warns you if you leave your keys in the ignition or leave your headlights on?

On mine it is in the key cylinder on the steering column. There is a sensor that says the key is in the ignition. I smack steering wheel and chime goes off. Find the one and only wire that goes to key cylinder and disconnect it. By doing this you no longer will be told that key is in ignition or that headlights are on so be careful.

The closer the pointer is to the 12 o'clock position the less time they will stay on, turn the switch more to the left and the headlights will stay on longer, up to 4 minutes. That switch has nothing to do with the sensitivity of the auto lamps, only the delay.
