If you want a charmander, you're going to have to trade it in from Fire Rerd or Leaf Green. That will also get you the National Dex, and if you want to complete that, you'll have to trade in a crap-load of other Pokemon from Fire Red/Leaf Green.

∙ 12y agook i had this prob 2 so i spent months working on how and heres what i found.......you can only get charmander from Pokemon yellow, red, and blue i think each is for the gameboy, you have to trade it. now i owned yellow version so i knew id have to trade,the thing is i didn't know how...so again months of searching and i found it!! i learn i had to get a "universal game link cable" only that would allow me to trade. the cable works for the gameboy sp so don't worry if your up to date on technology. it won't work on the ds, believe me i tried. now that i had the cable i could trade, but by then i had a charizard so i traded it for a worthless Pokemon in gold....hope i helped.... :) (note: im sorry for the story but to understand it you needed the back story.)
