Computer companies would be advertised in tech magazines, on the web, maybe in newspapers or at tech expositions. Write short articles about your web page, use keywords. Write articles you are knowledgeable or passionate about. Make your website famous and known!

There are plenty of ways, but the two most popular ways to generate traffic to a site are PPC (Pay Per Click) and SEO (Search Engine Optimization). PPC is quicker, but it costs a lot in the long term. Conversely, SEO takes a long time to generate big results, but it's relatively cheap in the long run and provides better returns over an extended time period. PPC covers things like buying ads on Facebook or Google - any time you're paying for each click, that's PPC. SEO is when you optimize your site to get free traffic from the search engines. You can also advertise on networks like Chitika and Yahoo Search Marketing - again, we're talking PPC here.

Three are three types of online media/channels, i.e.:

  1. Owned (it includes website/domain, blog, Social Media Accounts/Pages etc.)
  2. Earned (it includes all the fame that your brand/website earns like: earning brand-evangelists, backlinks, social shares, comments, likes, retweets etc.)
  3. Paid (it includes paid online advertisements with the ads networks like: Google Adwords, Bing Advertising, Twitter Advertising, Facebook Advertising, Linkedin Ads etc.)

You can use all these three channels (by being active on all these channels) to promote your website. So start with a strategy, i.e.: like this:

  • Index your website on major search engines
  • Create social network pages/accounts for your brand/website
  • Install the wordpress on the blog page of your website
  • Create your content calendar (starting with a weekly or monthly first) for your blog posts, articles submission (on major article directories) etc. and then work as per that.
  • For Social Media Promotion curate the content (out of your own brand's as well as popular content from your industry/niche) and you can use the Social Media Management services by HootSuite, Buffer etc. (to schedule your daily, weekly or monthly social media posting).
  • Start being helpful for your industry/niche and start producing useful content on the commenting networks, social networks, answers sites, forums, guest posts on others' blogs etc.
  • For Paid Promotion you can promote with Paid Ads for all the networks (like: Search, Display, Video, Mobile, Shopping)geographically as well as demographically, also you can use remarketing features and many more.

Start with this all and you will get many great ideas to promote thru all the online channels (Owned, Earned and Paid).
