You cannot really get COOL items on Pixie Hollow without being membership. But you CAN use secret codes, clickables or buy clothes from Brooks Basic.

My guess is that's their way of making money it makes you wanna be a member so u can buy and do stuff. There are stuff you can buy without being a member and there are secret codes that give u stuff. I love pixie hollow to hope this was helpful.:)
