Everyone has some degree of anxiety with lifes struggles. When anxiety negatively effects your life - then you have an illness. There are medications that can reduce anxiety which would suggest that it may be caused by a chemical imbalance. There are therapies that can reduce anxiety which would suggest that the mind can both cause the problem and mitigate the problem.

Someone suffering from the symptoms of an anxiety disorder should make an appointment with a Psychologist. From there, the Psychologist will ask the patient a series of questions and make observations. If a diagnosis is made, the Psychologist will refer the patient to a Psychiatrist for medication.

Well I HAD anxiety, ptsd , and etc since I was 8 .Now im 16 turning 17. I was hospitalized in feb to march. They gave me pills called Zoloft(help you be serene or so called calm down) and Melotonin to help for sleep. Also tension exercised helped too if you need help . reply to me for my email address .and also mediatation helps for it.deep breathing . Find something,someone,some place that's calms you down.For example colors and nature calms me down.Sometimes I do meditation.Now im like a little hippie walking the world calm. For my age, Im still young I help kids, teens , adults, and elders with their anxiety,ptsd,bipolar,anger issues,and suicidal ideation and they think my skills help. I been in the hospital 4time for anxiety and when I finally entered a mental hospital and the after results . I was calm as a cat.I hope this helps

Cognitive behavioral therapy. It is a way of retraining the brain's unhealthy anxious habits and learning new healthy non-anxious habits instead. Therapy works better than medication, especially cognitive behavioral therapy - and it's easy to learn how to do it (the hard thing is making yourself change and get new habits).
