How do you get the Helix and Dome fossils in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen?

In Pokémon FireRed/LeafGreen, the Helix Fossil and the Dome Fossil are both in Mt. Moon. When you first explore the cave on your way to Cerulean City, you should come across a trainer who is blocking the exit. After battling him, he will offer you the choice of one of the fossils.
You may choose either the Dome Fossil or the Helix Fossil, which revive into Kabuto and Omanyte, respectively. Without hacking or some other method of cheating, you may obtain only one of the two fossils per save file, meaning you will have to trade for the other fossil Pokémon.
