Hey Andy=I presume the handle will release the brake but the rear wheels still won't move. The problem is that rear shoes rust to the drums when you run through water or if your car sits a long time in humid weather. Sometimes it is hard to get them unstuck. You may have to take the wheels off and beat on the drums to get them off. Once they are off sand the drums and shoes. If the handle wont release the brake cable, you just have to find out why the release mechanism malfunctions. goodluckJoe
I just tried that and Had great success. I did not even have to remove the rim. Just tap a couple times on the outside of the wheel you will see the rust fall out (or at least I did) and tada! car moved after a couple momentum pushes (let the car rock back and forth so you do less work). If you try this first you will avoid having a mechanic take you for a ride just to whack the rims a couple of times.
Tighten it up!!

Check the fluid level in the master cylinder.
They just pull off but parking brake must be released & you may have to tap it. Shoes tend to fit pretty tightly in there.

The brake light switch is located above the brake pedal on a 1993 Nissan Sentra. To reach the switch the driver's door needs to be opened.
Check the adjustment of the brake light switch.

When you put the van in gear the brake should pop up. You have to have your foot on the brake before taking it out of park.
If the parking brake cable is stuck, it is probably rusted in place. Try squirting WD-40 into the cable itself. If not, you will have to replace the cable.
brake light on dash blinking
The cables are corroded. You will need to replace the cables. To free them up you will need to disconnect them from the parking brake levers on both rear brakes.

My parking brake was jammed, I just had to apply a great deal of pressure to the release and push quite hard. Don't be afraid to put some pressure on! Im a fit 17 yr. old guy and it took all my strength to do it. .
The parking light stays on how am I sure the parking brakes are not on
You have not set and adjusted them correctly.
Check the brake switch under your pedal (which needs to be pushed when the brake pedal is depressed). This is what the problem was on my friends Sentra. As long as you have checked the lights and fuses, this should do it.
The 1998 Nissan brake light switch is located below the dashboard, on the drivers side of the engine compartment. The brake light switch simply plugs in and out.
If it's rear drum brake you should be able to adjust the rear brake shoes properly and solve your problems Pull back the hand brake until you see a hole with a 10mm nut. You will need a 10mm deep well sockets to adjust brakes. Turn the nut clockwise to increase brake.
You can find a picture or diagram of the 1991 Nissan rear brake drums at most Nissan dealerships. The picture or diagram can also be found in most Nissan service manuals.
The turn signal flasher unit on a 1985 Nissan Sentra is under the dash on the driver's side. It is up under the dash just to the left of the brake pedal.

Do you mean parking brake switch? You have to sit on a stool, look under the dash under steering wheel. You will need a flashlight.
