How do you get to the heater vents on a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
This model has an actuator motor on the bottom of the plenum box on the passenger side next to the transmission tunnel. This is the axle for the blend door. You can remove the motor and examine the axle for any damage. The part sticking out of the box is a black plastic interposer that connects the motor to the blend door axle. You can pull this straight down and off with your fingers or a pair of pliers. It is common for this plastic piece to break, causing loss of control over the position of the blend door that controls air flow through the heater core. The motor connection and blend door are metal with a piece of plastic in between, and the plastic breaks.
There is a kit from HeaterTreater that will replace the cheap plastic with a steel connector that will solve the problem. Follow my user name back to our "My Page" for a link to the web site.
