Disconnect your battery for over 1 hr and plug it back in.
Disconnect the battery for a few minutes
disconnect negative cable to battery, disconnect plug from sensor, remove the 3 nuts and pull out.
there would either be a short to power in your switch / a short to power in your wiring somewhere between the battery and the bulb . somewhere in there electricity is constant and completely cuts out the selector switch. the lights turn off when you disconnect the battery because that is the only time that power is not applied to the bulbs.
I'm not sure about all of these, but I have a 98 Taurus and the battery light came on. After a few days, the car died altogether and I had to replace my alternator. I would definitely take the battery indicator seriously and have your alternator checked.
The 1989 Taurus has larger headlights separate from the turn signal(corner lamp) The 1993 Taurus has more slender headlights joined to the corner lamp.
To reset the computer on a 2002 Ford Taurus disconnect the negative battery cable. Leave the battery cable disconnected for five to ten minutes. Reconnect the cable and start the car. The computer should be reset.
If you are trying to sell the car and you just want the light out, you can disconnect the battery, but the light will come back on, maybe right away. The best thing to do is find out what's wrong. Have it checked out.

Go to a auto parts store and purchase the Ford Taurus auto manual and it will show you how tom do it correctly. Make sure you disconnect the battery cables first before you begin the job.

The alternator may not be charging. There may be a bad connection from the battery positive or negative to the vehicle circuits. The headlights large current draw is causing the voltage to drop below what the computer needs to operate properly
On a 1998, you can kill the running lights by pulling the the 15 daylight running light fuse in the engine comparement fuse box. Manual says to disconnect the battery before openning this comparment.

More than likely the ignition switch is bad. Replace it. In the interim, you can disconnect the battery cable.
Disconnect the battery for several minutes. But if you don't fix the PROBLEM that caused it to go on in the first place, it will just come back on.
I would find a local auto parts store that offers free battery and alternator testing - both of which can be performed with the parts on the car. My own suspicion would be a physical failure with the alternator - bearings possibly(?)
