How do you know if your guppy is pregnate?

If there is a female guppy and a male guppy in a tank you can almost guarantee the female will be gravid ( pregnant ).

Put a male guppy and female guppy in the same aquarium. That's all you can do. Chances are that if you got the female guppy from a store she's already pregnant. Female guppies can hold sperm for months and have several births from the same sperm.

You will see swelling of the abdomen and most times if you look down at a pregnant female guppy from above you will see a widening of her body. also look for a black spot by her anal fin. the bigger it gets the closer the time will come.

When she is really close to giving birth, you will be able to tell because she will look very bloated, her gravid spot gets darker, and a bump appears below the gravid spot. If you would like to keep the fry (baby guppies), put her in a midi float, or a largish container filled with water and floated in the tank will do. If you don't want to keep the fry, then just leave her in the tank and most fry will get eaten, sucked up by the filter (depending on what sort of filter you have), or killed by a disease of the stomach or a deformity, leaving a few if your tank is fry- friendly. I know this may sound cruel, in fact it is cruel, but it saves the killing of many more guppies, as those guppies would have children, and those guppies would have children, and as guppies have so many fry, increasing the number of fry that would have to be killed.

To take care of the fry, feed them a small bit of cooked egg yolk mashed with a little water, and fish out any dead fry (as there's always some) so it doesn't make the other fry sick.
