You can try crushing the pill and mixing it with a smaller amount of food than the dog normally eats. Dogs are smart, so if you have one of those dogs that eats around the crushed medication ask the vet if it comes in liquid. The way I give my dogs pills (even my cat) is by gently holding their head back, putting my finger on each side of their jaw (so they can close) throw in the pill, hold my hand around their closed muzzle (while the head is still tilted back) and gently rub downward on their throat. It works for me every time and I know for sure that they have gotten the medication. This is a good method, but when the dog seems to have swallowed, open his or her mouth while his/her head is still tilted back to see if he/she has really swallowed (my dog is smart enough to try and hide the pill). Another method (if your dog likes peanut butter) is to completely coat the pill in a substantial amount of peanut butter and let the dog eat it from your hand: it worked on my puppy and she hates taking pills.
The best way to give a dog a pill is to wrap it, or stick it in food the dog will eat. Hotdogs work great, because you can break off a 1-2 inch piece, and put the pill in the middle of it. IN some cases the dog will eat the food and spit the pill out. If that happens, just increase the amount of the food to drown out the pill, so to speak, and the dog will eventually eat it.
break open a treat/dog biscuit put the pill in the middle then stick the 2 halves back together again. or crush the pill into dust and put it in some sort of soft, wet food.
2ND: Put the pill in an appropriate size piece of raw meat (piece of a hot dog works to) then let it sit for about 10-15 minutes so the pill soaks up the moisture of the meat and becomes soft, then take a couple other pieces of meat and feed them to the dog then toss the dog the loaded piece of meat and he will gobble it up...
crushing the pill up and putting it into food is ok but sometimes certain pills are very bitter especially antibiotics and when they are spread over a couple tablespoons full of food the dog may not eat all of it...try it both ways and use what works..
If the medicine is in a capsule don't open the capsule and pour it out into the food or allow the dog to chew the capsule up with the food because some capsules are designed to disolve slowly in the stomach and release the medication at a controled rate to prevent stomach burning and/or upset..In this case you have get the dog to swallow the capsule whole by opening their mouth and placing the capsule over the back of the tongue then holding their mouth closed for a few seconds until they swallow..
This really depends on the dog. I've done it a variety of ways when I was working as a Vet Tech. Some dogs will take a plil that has been wrapped in a piece of cheese, others mixed in with their food. For the more stubborn dogs, the best way to do it, is open your dogs mouth, insert the pill and clamp their mouth closed, leaving your forefinger over the dogs nostrils. This forces the dog to swallow and breath from the mouth. Within seconds the pill is down and your dog is perfectly fine.
First of all you should ask a vet. Second it is possible to give your dog a pill but I only give my dog Allergy pills when he has a cold.
You have to hide it inside a treat they would like to eat.
Hide it in the dogs food works with my dog 99.9% of the time
Put it in his food.
Hide the medicine in the dogs food.
yes, but very important to follow vet instructions as dosage goes by weight. my small dog would get a quarter pill
My dog had parvo and we learned to give the dog have a pill of Tylenol and pepto bismal
give dog a chill pill then he will be calmed down and then you can take the shot
Yeah it will give her somesort of kidney disease
you would give the owner of the dog an anti stress pill or two to calm them down and then give them a bone
It depends on the antibiotic. There are many.
once a month
You could put it in Rice or Chicken you could do anything.Open his or her mouth and give it to them or give it a shot.
never ever give your dog a sleeping pill for that could hurt the dog and maybe even kill it! if you want to cut your dogs hair put it on a leash and tie it to something and cut cut cut! or maybe just take it to the dog barbors!
What if my dog ate my lunesta pill
Well, with mine i put it inside some cheese and give it to him as a treat. He doesn't even realise that there was a pill inside. However if the dog will not eat the pill you can put it inside the dogs mouth tilt the head back and rub its throat, this will potentially make the dog swallow.
You can actually give your dog mild pain killers. Aspirin works just fine. However, dogs can also be allergic to certain medications, just like people, so be careful. Also keep in mind the amount of medicine you give the dog. Obviously a smaller dog requires a smaller dosage than a larger dog. Small dogs should probably be given just one pill, larger dogs two. Hope this helped!
