Best Answer

PV = nRT or (Pressure) = (moles of gas)x(universal gas constant)x(Temperature)/(Volume). Thus to increase pressure: increase the amount of the gas, increase the temperature of the gas or decrease the volume of the container in which it is held.

There are three ways to increase the pressure of a confined sample of gas:

1). Inject more gas into the same space.

2). Reduce the space inside the container, forcing the same amount of gas

to scrunch into less volume.

3). Heat the container.

The answer to this is part of boyle's law. the pressure of a gas is inversly proportionate to its density. so if you compress gas you raise the pressure.

Two ways, your choice: 1). Heat the container and the gas in it, but don't allow them to expand. 2). Compress the container and the gas in it, i.e. reduce its volume.

How does the pressure of a gas change if you increase volume?

If you increase the volume of the container, and not the gas itself, then the pressure decreases. If you increase the volume of the gas, and not the container, then the pressure increases.
