Rent harmonic balancer puller from auto parts store, free when you return it. Remove bolt for old balancer. Place pin into hole. Hold puller tool while you install three bolts (from puller set) into old balancer. Screw large center bolt into puller to push off the old balancer. Hopefully you have an impact, because it is tight and will take alot of effort. Install: Line up new balancer. Tap lightly with block of wood, just enough until center bolt threads can be started. Use impact to drive it all the way on. Put everything back in reverse order.

Yes, the bolt that holds the harmonic balancer in place on a 2001 Chevy Malibu is reverse thread. I learned that the hard way and stripped the head of my bolt down to nothing. And the bolt is almost impossible to find, because they no longer make them.
The engine has a harmonic balancer on it, but if it is off, it is easy to re-install. Simply line up the key and tap it on most of the way and torque down the center bolt.
