have owned an 84 now for 20 years,which is essentially the same truck,over the years,i have replaced all of the heater components(heater core and fan motor),this is a breeze as both peices are fully accessible from under the hood in the passenger side of the firewall- fan motor is a no-brainer as it sits up top staring you in the face(attached by a few screws). the heater core is a little more involved,but still very straight forward- follow the coolant lines into the firewall and you'll see how it is secured.

You will need to loosen the tensioner pulley on your 1983 Chevrolet S 10 pickup truck. Slide the tensioner pulley to the left. The serpentine belt will become loose. Put the new fit serpentine belt on and tighten the tensioner pulley by sliding it to the right.
