The 97 K1500 series trucks, tahoes, and suburbans have a din and a half radio size. This size is known as an oversize radio. Pioneer is one of the only manufacturers to make an aftermarket radio. This Supertuner III can be found on most websites and its design is about 10 years old. Now this CD player is still a mighty fine option for an upgrade if you are looking for a perfect fit with an ease of installation. Dont forget you will need an GM antenna adapter for any aftermarket radio install

If you are looking for something newer such as HD radio, I-Pod Adapter, USB input, or wireless remotes you will have to go with an Single DIN radio. You will need your radio of choice, wiring harness adapter, antenna adapter, and a install kit.

THINGS TO REMEMBER

UNHOOK BATTERY FIRST!!!

HAve all your parts!!

Read the instructions and pay attention to radio harness diagrams!!

Be careful removing the dash trim ring. Its large and held on by clips. It will break easily if you are too rough. Loosen it around the steering column first but dont pull it away from the dash until it is completely separated.

Take your time and DO IT RIGHT!!!

Probably want at replacing hte speakers as they are paper and might be dry rotted (the radio will have more power than the old one and may finish them off)

Go to www.Crutchfield.com and get your parts. Everything to install it is usually free and they have good specials and tech support.

You don't apparently. Even Crutchfield doesn't carry a harness for it. This would be a non-Pioneer system and w/o on star.

Where is the radio harness located on a 1991 Chevy Cheyenne 1500?

It is connected to the back of the radio. I suggest you purchase an adapter for your radio ( about $10 ) it is easy to connect and makes your aftermarket radio plug straight into the stock harness. This is particularly useful if you are going to want your radio back when selling the truck. Since it is a 91 someone may have already cut the connector out and wired an aftermarket unit into it. adapters and dash kits are available from crutchfield.com and are surprisingly cheap.

How do you replace the stereo in a silverado?

Depends on year model, newer ones the dash is easier to remove to get the radio out, Chevy truck dashes are easy though, you need to remove the trim around the radio to get to the screws that hold the radio in. Re-Installing a aftermarket radio? Hopefully you got a dash kit and wiring kit so that you wont cut the truck radio wires(if not, then stop now and go get it from your radio shop, it will make installation alot easier for you).
