EGR Valve
4.2L, 4.6L, 5.4L and 6.8L Engines
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the vacuum hose from the EGR valve.
3. On the 4.6L engine, remove the nut and brake booster bracket.
4. On the 5.4L engine, remove the DPFE sensor retaining nuts and place the sensor to the side to allow access to the EGR tube.
5. Disconnect the EGR valve-to-exhaust manifold tube from the EGR valve.
6. Remove the EGR valve mounting bolts, then separate the valve from the intake manifold.
7. Remove and discard the old EGR valve gasket, and clean the gasket mating surfaces on the valve and the intake manifold.
To Install:
8. Install the EGR valve, along with a new gasket, on the manifold, then install and tighten the mounting bolts.
9. Connect the EGR valve-to-exhaust manifold tube to the valve, then tighten the tube nut to 25-35 lbs. (34-47 Nm).
10. Connect the vacuum hose to the EGR valve.
11. On the 5.7L engine, install the DPFE sensor.
12. On the 4.6L engine install the brake booster bracket and the retaining nut.
13. Connect the negative battery cable.
I believe it is on the valve cover , drivers side of engine , towards the rear
first you have to install a 5.9 engine
1997 was the first year of the Mercury Mountaineer and the only engine available was the 5 liter over head valve ( OHV ) design with ( 2 ) valves per engine cylinder
Under and behind the throttle body.
The 4.2 L - V6 engine used in the 1997 Ford F-150 is an OHV ( overhead valve not an overhead cam ) if that is the engine you are referring to ?
Yes, you can replace a 1.5 liter engine in a 1997 Mirage with a 1.8 liter engine. However, there will be extra parts needed to modify the engine so that it will fit perfectly.
The V6 engine is a 4.0 liter / 245 cubic inch ( either the VIN " X " , which is an overhead valve / pushrod design engine , or the VIN " E " which is a SOHC engine ) The V8 engine is a 5.0 liter / 302 cubic inch ( VIN " P " ) ( the 8th " character " of the VIN ) in a 1997 Ford Explorer
On my 1995 Ford Explorer , also with the 4.0 liter OHV , V6 engine , has the EGR valve mounted just to the left of the engine oil dipstick ( when looking into the engine compartment from the drivers side , it is lower down and has a round shaped top )
I was looking at a drawing of the 7.5 / 460 cubic inch V8 in the 1997 Ford F-250 heavy duty Owner Guide and it shows the PCV valve on ( the top of the passenger side engine valve cover , near the rear )
1997 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The first year of the Ford 5.4 liter V8 was 1997 as mentioned above , but that was 2 valves per engine cylinder . The first model year of the Ford F-150 with the 5.4 liter 3V engine was ( 2004 ) and then in the Ford Expedition it was the ( 2005 model )
In the 1997 Ford Expedition , either the 4.6 liter ( 281 cubic inch ) V8 engine or the 5.4 liter ( 330 cubic inch ) V8 engine
You could have a 4. 2 liter V6 , or a 4.6 liter or 5.4 liter V8 engine
