To get a 400 Pontiac Motor in 1979, you had to also get the 4 speed. Pontiac last manufactured 400 motors in 1978 but saved some from 1978 for use in the 1979 model. Those motors were used in the 1979 4 speed cars only. 1979 Automatics had the Oldsmobile 403. You could also get a turbo version too. All of which could come with auto trans. I worked on many of these at the Pontiac dealer.

There are 2 fuel lines that need to be removed from the pump and 2 bolts. When putting it back on make sure the arm goes under the lobe, you will have to apply a little pressure to the pump to install it.
