How do you install the idle air control valve on a 98 Mercury Grand Marquis and is it difficult for a novice to repair?

This is a novice repair. Very easy. Even the wife could do. Most Crown Vic's and Grand Marquis from 1998-2005 have the valve located at the rear of the air intake section. Where a carburetor would have been. Where the manifold meets the air intake section of the manifold. It is small, has 2 bolts and a electric connector. It also has a small exhaust hose attached to it. Just remove the 2 bolts and gasket along with the gasket, as you remove it, you will see that the exhaust hose is also easily removed just by twisting the valve a little. Replace if necessary. You can also clean the valve by using carb cleaners. But this will only buy you time, as the valve should be replaced as a assembly. It's small, fits in the palm of your hand, and can be purchased on eBay for less then $50.
