They usually eat whatever falls to the bottom, (I know I used to have 2 clams and an oyster in a tank with fish, an anemone and a starfish) they usually burry in the sand so make sure u have a lot of that avalible for them to burry in. They are usually salt-water (check with your supplier on this one)

if they are open then they are dead

keep them in water in the refrigerator never keep tied in a plastic bag - they need to breathe only keep for a few days and never eat open clams

If you have a clam as a pet you have to feed it algae, if its mouth is open poke it. If it closes its alive if it doesn't do any thing its dead.
