use a net and sticky traps.

There are many ways and things you can try To get rid of fruit flies. I personally recommend that you use a vinegar trap. It is efficient and not hazard's. All you need to do is to pour some vinegar into a source. Then make a cone out of paper with the one end small enough for a fruit fly to go into. The cone must not touch the vinegar. The fruit flies will go in because they love the smell but they won't know how to get out.

To get rid of the fruit flies that are flying around in your kitchen, you should take an empty jar and put a slice of peach in the jar and put a tablespoon or 2 in the jar. Itdoesn't have to be exact. The trick is that fruit flies die if they stick to the soap, so they are going in the jar for the peach slice or whatever fruit you put in it, and they end up dying from the soap. This really works! I did this a couple weeks ago and I got at least 20 fruit flies out of my kitchen.

Alternate Method:

A variation on this is to place dish soap and water in equal parts in an aluminum (disposable) pie pan. Take a small lamp (bed side or desk lamp) and lay it on its side care that it does not touch the water but remains about 1/2 to 1 inch above it. Turn on the lamp and walk away. After about an hour or so, you'll see dozens of little flies floating in the pan.

This works for most flying insects.

i have found that if you set out a glass of red wine it will catch many fruit flies. if you see that there are some flies in the glass but not yet in the wine, sneak up on them and quickly cover the glass with a paper towel and your hand then shake to soak em!

Two methods:

  1. You'll need an aluminum pie plate, dish soap, fruit juice, and a small table lamp. Mix the juice with the dish soap and cover the bottom of the pie pan. place the lamp so the bulb is an inch above the liquid and turn it on. Leave it in your kitchen counter over night. Repeat this until the flies are gone, replacing the liquid each night.
  2. You will need a two liter soft drink bottle, water, sugar, and baking soda. Mix all. Cut the top from the bottle, invert it in the bottom of the bottle, and tape the edge. Pour the mixture into the bottle, half full, and place it where most of the flies are seen. Throw it away when the bugs are gone.

Populations tend to build during the summer, becoming very abundant at harvest time. Indoors, fruit flies are frequently active at all times of the year.
