bypass it by connecting the battery cable directly to the starter motor. remember the solenoid is just a low voltage switch which exists so that high current cables do not have to be run to the starter system. wheni you turn the ignition key it should activate an electro-magnet in the solenoid which causes a metal bar to connect the battery power to the starter motor. so just bypass it to prove whether it works or not.
You can turn the key to the "run" position, and jump across the solenoid with a screwdriver or something metal. If the starter turns, you have a bad solenoid.
Could possibly a solenoid on the starter going bad. Could possibly a solenoid on the starter going bad. Could possibly a solenoid on the starter going bad.
If the starter is bad no. Check battery, starter and solenoid to be sure which is bad.
If the battery tests good and battery cables are clean and tight at both ends and you are jumping the starter solenoid correctly with no results, you probably have a bad starter/solenoid.
Typically, when the solenoid fails the starter is right behind. If you know how you could replace the solenoid, put in brushes and bushings and the starter MIGHT be ok if nothing bad has happened to the armature.
Bad starter, bad starter solenoid, or the problem might not be the starter at all.
It is mounted on the starter motor itself. When you get another starter, it will have the solenoid mounted on it already. If it is bad, just replace the starter, I would not change just the solenoid.
Seized Engine? Loose or corroded battery cables? Loose connection at starter or solenoid? Bad starter solenoid Bad starter? Bad neutral safety switch?
The battery is dead, the connection is bad, the terminals are corroded, the starter is bad, the solenoid is bad.
Assuming you are referring to the starter solenoid which is on... the starter. In fact, it's a part of the starter. If the solenoid goes bad just replace the entire starter, the whole thing is probably worn out anyway.
Put a stethoscope or a plastic tube onto the solenoid, listen at it while a friend turns the starter. If solenoid clicks it is good. -Problem then is low battery or dud starter.
The starter solenoid is on the starter. The starter solenoid is on the starter.
