Noisy pump, hard starting, stalling.
No. But you may be out of gas and not know it.
We need to know which sending unit you speak of. There are several on that vehicle such as temperature sending unit, oil pressure sending unit and fuel gauge sending unit.
It is a fuel sending unit located in the fuel tank. The fuel sending unit is attached to the fuel pump. You will know that the sending unit is failing if the fuel guage starts to bounce. Replacing this requires removal of the bed, change the fuel sending unit/pump, replace the bed. It is not a difficult job per se, but requires a lift for the bed or friends to help remove the bed.

Hello all The Fuel Sending Unit in a 2003 Chevy Malibu is the the Fuel tank itself! You must unbolt the fuel tank from the two straps. Be very carfull that you do this while the fuel tank is almost empty this way when you drop it it wont be too heavy. You will have to unscrew the cap where you have all the wires on the inner top of the tank. The fuel pump and sending unit is all together when I replaced the fuel pump ($200.00) the sending unit came together. This is all I know you will have to reseaech see if the sending unit comes alone. good luck
IT' CALLED A FUEL TANK SENDING UNIT..
