There are many different contributing factors that play into whether or not someone has an eating disorder. There are a variety of symptoms to each eating disorder, depending on which eating disorder you are talking about, the symptoms will change. Also usually when someone is unable to admit to the fact that they have an eating disorder, and others feel that the particular person does, that's usually the first sign.

Eating Disorder like Anorexia and Bulimia is a major concern in major countries. It is unknown what exactly triggers or causes something like anorexia for example, but possible explanations that are offered include:

  • 1. Feeling stressed out or upset about something in your life, or
  • 2. Feeling like you need to be "in control."
  • 3. Society also puts a lot of pressure on people to be thin.
  • People with anorexia may get so thin that they look like they're sick.Individuals suffering from anorexia, go to extreme lengths to keep themselves from gaining weight. Similarly, Eating disorders like bulimia for example, deals with excessive weight loss through self-starvation and sometimes through purging (vomiting, laxative usage), excessive exercising, refusal to maintain normal weight, intense fear of weight gain, obsessive preoccupation with weight and shape, loss of menstrual periods, distorted body image and so on.

Can you have an eating disorder without knowing: yes Can you have an eating disorder without trying: yes Eating disorders are mental illnesses, not weight-loss aids, people don't develop an eating disorder on purpose. Often they won't know or believe that they are ill, which makes them difficult to treat. I don't know if this is what you were asking, the question is quite vague. So if this doesn't answer your question feel free to clarify.

You won't really know if you have an eating disorder. The only way you could tell was to talk to about it to your doctor or someone who knows about eating habits. If your eating something and you don't feel hungry then your just eating out of habit. It's not a good habit so try breaking it!
