Female bettas are more at ease with a school of their own kind, it is a fish that moves around or swims in the tank, they eat staple food as a diet with no problem its not a long lived fish they do like to hide in plants if they are in with larger fish, the fish for the most part is easy going and swims around a lot, any fish that does not get enough to eat will pick on even a slow moving larger fish to stay alive. no special diet required just make sure when you are feeding your fish you see the female betta eating.
