3 days after the egg has been incubated hold it up to a strong light so that you can see through it. a fertile egg will have the beginning of a embryo and network of veins on the yolk, it will look like a spider web.

Taking an egg on hand no one can tell whether is fertile. An egg produced in mixed farms(raring hens and cocks) are usually fertile. Some of the branded eggs displays fertle(often unfertilised) tags.

If you want to test it,incubate the eggas for 3 days and hold it against a strong light so that you can see through it. A fertile egg will have the beginning of a embryo and network of veins inside the shell.

Basically shining a light through it so that you can see what is inside..it is called candling an egg. You can either make your own home rig or buy one. Explaining what to look for is harder than actually seeing pictures...Do a search on candling and eggs and there should be a list of sites ..some actually have real good images of what to look for with explanations. I do it with my flock at home but it is easier to see than explain. once you see you'll get it right.

If you have a rooster in the flock and you see him mating with any hens chances are the eggs are fertile.

If you are asking about store bought eggs, it is very unlikely they are fertilized eggs.

Are unfertilized chicken eggs OK to eat?

Yes, If you had a fertilized egg it would be developing into a chick. Unfertilized eggs are the ones you buy in the stores.

When do you candle a fertilized chicken egg?

You can candle a fertilized chicken egg anytime. There is very little to see for the first few days but after about day 5 you will see changes. It is best not to keep the egg out of the incubator for more than a few minutes and certainly no more than 20 minutes as they are susceptible to temperature changes and will not develop well if you let it cool.

How do you know that a chicken egg is fertile without breaking it?

When its just fresh there's no telling. After the hen has been sitting on it or has been in an incubator you can tell be holding it against a bright light (you can see blood veins in the egg) or put it in water; a fertilized egg will float, and a non fertilized egg will sick. A spoiled/ rotten egg will float as well, but it will be quiet old when that happens.

What if the chicken egg is fertile how long can it be that way and what temp do i store it at.?

Fertility lasts about a week, after that the odds are low that the egg will hatch. They should be stored at room temperature (NEVER refrigerated) with the small end pointing down.

A fertile chicken egg contains an embryo, which is what grows to become a baby chicken, gradually consuming the egg yolk and the egg white in the process.

How do you know a chicken egg is fertile?

After day 5 of incubation you can candle the egg to see shadowy changes within the egg. There are no outward indicators of fertility with chicken eggs. Candling eggs means to shine a bright light into the end of the egg and observe the development of the embryo within. A non fertile egg will show no shadows within the shell.
