How do you know when you get your period the first time?

Well most of the time you're not even thinking about it. Most often, it happens when your mind is off somewhere else and you realize you need to go to the bathroom. When you pull your panties down, you'll see red-ish brown-ish stuff on your panties. That's your period for ya. Also, you will be certain that its your period if you get cramps lower down on your stomach, across your back, and even around the private area.

You might not be able to tell at first, but if you go to the bathroom or look in your underpants, it can be something between a bright red colour to a rusty brick red. You'll be OK if you carry an extra pad around. If it happens at school, use some toilet paper to make a temporary "pad" so nothing else leaks onto your underwear. Go to your teacher or the school nurse and be calm, and ask if they have any pads. You may feel better if you wear panty-liners, which are very thin, small material, the same material they use in pads. These may prevent your underwear from getting stained, since it is most likely your first period will be not very heavy.

No panic.

Just ask a mom, a older sister, or another older woman in the house, tell them that you got your period and if you could use something.

If they do not have ant or they cannot have their period any more, ask your mom to buy some. They will have different kinds for you and the absorbency.

• Drink lots of water
• exercise lightlyto help with cramping
• use a heating pad for cramps
• Get on your knees and put your shoulder to the floor. i know that sounds weird but by tilt this way, it shifts the uterus so it doesn't have any pressure on your tummy.
• Make sure the clots are smaller than a quarter, if they aren't let a parent know and get it checked.
• If your period is coming at terrible times, and it's all out of wack, you may need Birth Control. talk to your mom.
• If your blood is sort of brown, don't worry.. that's just old blood from the lining of the uterus.
• If it last longer than 2 weeks, let someone know!
