∙ 12y agoYou will know when your period starts by a reddish stain. This is the beginning of a normal cycle that should last from 20-30some days long. I really can't say how long the period will last because it varies greatly between women. If friends or family members already have their period, you should probably count you will be on the same cycle as them. If you get your first period during school, emergency methods are going to the bathroom and roll the toilet paper around your hands neatly. The toilet paper in schools is normally pretty stiff, and so holds this rectangular shape really well. Just place in in your underwear and you should be fine. Don't worry about it though because your first period is really light and you shouldn't stain.

You may have a discharge, some food cravings, feel a little puffy or bloated, be more emotional , have some back aches, and maybe a bit of cramps. When this starts you can help yourself by cutting out soft drinks , sugar, junk foods, caffeine ( no power drinks sky high caffeine in them) and get some excerise.

∙ 9y agoYou can tell when you're starting your period because you start to see vaginal bleeding - spotting which is brown or pink discharge, or a full bleed. Not all vaginal bleeding is menstruation but it's typically safe to assume this is the cause of vaginal bleeding.
