How do you know your tongue is able to be pierced?

Earlobe piercings take at least 8 weeks to heal and ear cartilage takes at least 3-9 months. The placement for cartilage also plays a major part in healing time, thats why its such a big range.

Anyways, after the initial healing period, you won't experience swelling, tenderness, redness/discoloration, or bleeding (shouldnt be too much in the first place). So, you can change the jewelry after 2-3 months but it wont be completely healed for a while. Cartilage may seem like it "heals" quickly but then it'll kinda flare up. If you're not sure about whether its o to change the jewelry, go ask your piercer :)

Go to a licensed professional. They can look at your tongue and tell you. There are key things they will look for. I'm not going to tell you what they are, because then every idiot out there will try to access their own tongue and do it themselves.

Most likely, it isn't. Saliva keeps your mouth from getting infected. Right after the piercing some white stuff may ooze out but that's normal discharge. Unless it's yellow or green, you probably shouldn't worry.
Pain, swelling, bad odour, discharge of blood and puss from the piercing, sore throat, fever, chills. This means you are in serious shape and medical attention is required without delay. Infected tongue piercing can go septic and require medical attention and antibiotics to treat.

Signs of infection:

-Swollen, itchy, discolored for more than 3 weeks

-Greenish/yellow discharge

-pus

You can tell once you see slight discoloration, unexpected and sudden swelling. And/ or throbbing pain, you should immediately remove any jewelry that you might have in it, and contact a doctor before it gets worse. Hope I helped, and it never hurts to just show it to your doctor if you're unsure.

Your tongue takes about 1 year to fully heal. Any time before 1 year, it is not fully healed so do not treat it as if it is.
