Look in your engine bay on the fenders or on the front wall. Your horn is most likely black and should look like a PA loudspeaker or a couple of fat discs about the size of a hockey puck. check in front of the radiator or on the driver's side of the engine bay as a starting point.

A horn might not work on a 1996 Honda Accord because of a blown fuse. There is also the possibility that the wire was cut or damaged. The horn is part of the security system. A used car might have the horn wire cut because the previous owner was annoyed by the horn blaring when someone came near the car.

Sure, you can add a horn if you wish. Just wire it into the exhisting horn or disconnect the OEM horns and add another one.

Check the fuse first. If the fuse is good apply 12 volts directly to the horn. If it blows then the horn button on the steering wheel or wiring is defective. If not, the horn itself is defective.

On my 98 Accord EX, the horn contacts in the steering wheel became corroded. Now the horn only works when I press the horn button and rock the steering wheel. Honda said that it would cost over $800 to repair it because the contacts are integrated with the air bag and the whole thing needs to be replaced. I may spray it with electrical contact cleaner from Radio Shack. If that doesn't work, I'll drive it into the river.

How do you repair 1999 Honda Civic Horn?

User Avatar

Mine is a 1999 Accord V6 coupe and I don't think there's a horn fuse. There is a horn relay under the hood in the back left in a black plastic box. On mine there are 3 identical relays (2 for headlights and 1 for the horn). If the 4-cylinder has the same arrangement as the V6 you could switch the relays to see if that was the problem.

The under-hood fuse/relay box has a fuse/relay called No.13 HORN/STOP 20A.
