Why does your 2001 caravan put out heat spurratically?

Check to verify the coolant level is full. If the vehicle has a engine coolant temperature guage, does it reach and maintain a normal temperature duing vehicle operation? If not have a mechanic check for a leaking head gasket.

Why would you replace a thermostat?

Not functioning properly If stuck closed engine will overheat--no coolant flow through engine. If stuck open--vehicle will not warm up to normal operating temperature - no heat in passenger compartment--poor fuel economy

How do you diagnose error code 118 high temperature input Audi a4?

Diagnostic error code number 118 with high temperature input on a Audi A4 means that the engine coolant is not running at the right temperature. When the engine is cold, it should be warm, and when the engine is warm, the temperature should be cooler in the engine. The problem could be with the Engine Coolant Temperature sensor or the vehicle could be low on fluid.

Where is the Coolant temperature sensor on a 1999 mondeo?

The coolant temperature sensor on a 1999 Mondeo is located on top of the engine, in the intake manifold. It constantly updates the vehicle's computer and controls the cooling fan.

Does the thermostat control the heat in your car?

No, the thermostat controls the temperature of the engine coolant. As long as the coolant temperature is below the thermostat set-point, the thermostat remains closed. Once the temperature arrives at the set-point, the thermostat starts to open, sending heated coolant through the radiator. The radiator then cools the heated engine coolant and the water pump forces the coolant back through the engine. The heater control valve allows more or less of the engine coolant through the heater core. Since the coolant should be very near the set-point temperature of the thermostat, you should be getting hot water through the heater core to warm the inside of the vehicle. The engine coolant is there to keep the engine from melting down or from breaking metal parts and burnng off the oil. It just happens that the heated coolant is useful to warm the inside of the vehicle.

Where is the coolant sensor on a 2001 Mercury Sable and is it possible to replace it without replacing the entire coolant reservoir?

NOTE: this answer is describing the location of the engine coolant temperature sensor - NOT the coolant sensor in the reservoir that warns when the level gets too low.The coolant temperature sensor is located directly adjacent to the thermostat housing. The thermostat housing is what the upper radiator hose (toward the right side of the engine compartment) connects to. You do not have to replace the reservoir to replace this part, but leaky coolant reservoirs are a common problem on this model.

What is engine coolant?

coolants are specially treated liquids formulated to cool your engine instead of water(untreated) Coolant is a substance, usually a kind of liquid made under a certain chemical formulae stored in a device called radiator on a motor vehicle (or other kind of machinery), and it runs/ circles in the cooling system of the vehicle to reduce the heat or the temperature of the engine rises by the running or operating of the vehicle’s engine whenever the vehicle’s engine operates; thus the overheat can be prevented and the engine can be ensured to performing in a mechanical condition.
