iT IS SIMPLE, fIND THE BELT TENTIONER, IT IS A SPRING LOADED ARM WITH A 3/8" square hole in it near the idler pully, use a 3/8" rachet or braker bar to move it up, this will release the tension on the belt, be sure to rout the new belt properly! clay

I did a alternator replacement on my 96' Lumina Sedan 3.1. In the engine compt. there's a diagram showing the serpentine belt flow and belt tensioner location. 1. Remove the belt after releasing the tension. 2. remove the bolts from the alternator & wire plug connecion. 3. Replace & reverse order. Pretty straight forward.
