When I got my Riviera back in 2007 I thought that changing the belt was going to be easy like my wifes' Pontiac Firebird (2001) release tension and replace the belt right. NO the Riviera 3800 supercharger was difficult someone earlier tried to replace the belts and ruined the oil pan by jacking up the engine under the oil pan, this pan cannot hold the weight use a piece of wood with a v cut into it and jack the motor up on the vibration damper. I used a engine cherry picker and lifted the engine. Remove the passenger front wheel insert jack stands. There is a access panel behind the front passenger wheel the motor mount on the drivers side and with a torks I think a 52 a rather large one remove a large bolt and with a crowbar pry the old belt off this has to done to remove the belt and install the new one. Then replace the torx bolt and route the belt or belts use tensioneer. This was a real pain but can be done.
Loosen bolt in tension pulley, then loosen tension bolt. Replace belt. Tighten tension bolt. Last, tighten bolt through pulley.

To loosen the tension on a serpentine belt on a 2005 Grand Caravan 3.8L, turn the nut of the belt tension pulley to loosen it. Adjust the belt, then tighten the tension pulley by turning the nut in the opposite direction.
Ajustment bolt is located at the bottom of power steering pump.
If you are referring to the Serpentine belt, you loosen no pulley. You simply remove tension from the belt. The tension is applied by the Idler Pulley. Pry the idler back and remove the belt.If you are referring to the Serpentine belt, you loosen no pulley. You simply remove tension from the belt. The tension is applied by the Idler Pulley. A ratchet isÊneeded to loosen the serpentine belt tension pulley on a 2002 Jeep Wrangler V6. It will require a 1/2 inch ratchet.
You could do what I did, wait for the tension pulley to fall off the van...
Looks like you have to loosen the tension on the serpentine belt first. Only one bolt is not easily accessed. If you don't loosen the belt, you have to hold the belt out the way (with tension on it) and try to get the bolt in and hold the housing up at the same time (good luck with that unless you have three hands), it can be done though. I am not much of a mechanic and it took me about 1.5 hours with the serpentine belt in place.
If it is a drive belt and not a serpentine belt is has no tensioner. You manually adjust the tension by normally adjusting tension by moving the alternator. Loosen to bolts holding the alternator in place and then adjust the tension. Tighten the bolts when the tension is right. If it is serpentine belt if you follow the belt around the the engine you will see the tensioner.
no the bolt on the pulley does not need to be loosen just put ur wrench or rachet on the bolt head and turn either way till the pulley moves
My suburban has a automatic tensioner therefore I need to do is take the tension off with a long wrench and slide the belt from underneath it and replace it with the new one. The tensioner is right by the water pump. If not then you will need to loosen the alternator bolt and drop the alternator to loosen the tension. Trust me manuals can be your best friend!!
Changing the serpentine belt on a 97 Mitsubishi Diamante is a fairly easy task. All you need to do is get a wrench and loosen the tension pulley and pull of the serpentine belt.
