Bring the yarn to the front of the work (the side closest to you). Insert the right needle into the first stitch on the left needle from back to front. Imagine the stitch is a little cowboy sitting on a horse. The tip of the left needle is the horse's nose. The cowboy is facing to your right. Be sure you insert the right needle under the cowboy from the tail of the "horse" toward the horse's nose. Wrap the yarn around the tip of the right needle normally (for most American and European knitters this would be counter clock-wise). Pull the wrap under the left needle and to the back. There is now a brand new purl stitch on the right needle and it is time to drop the old stitch off the left needle.

The link below shows a video clip on how to purl. It's generally much easier to get the hang of if you can watch it demonstrated.

You Make One in purling very much the same way you do with knitting. You pick up the new stitch using either the bridge yarn between the stitches or the stitch below the next one (your choice), be sure the stitch is seated properly on the left needle after picking it up then purl it....Done!

Purling is a very common stitch in knitting. When looking at a piece of knitted fabric, the purl stitch is actually the reverse side of the knit stitch.

In order to perform a purl stitch, begin with stitches on the left hand needle.

Make sure that the yarn strand you are knitting with is at the front of the needles (the side facing you). Insert the tip of the right-hand needle downward into the front of the stitch closest to the tip of the left-hand needle.

Take the strand of working yarn and wrap it up and over the tip of the right-hand needle, so that it is between the needles.

Using the tip of the right-hand needle, pull the strand of working yarn that was pulled between the needles through the stitch, making a single loop on the right-hand needle.

Pull the stitch on the left-hand needle that was just worked on off of the needles completely.

Repeat this process on the next stitch, and so on.

This is how purling is done, but in order to better understand the instructions, take a look at some videos:

Videos are best to learn, look at YouTube or the knittinghelp website linked below.
Well, it's just like normal knitting but in reverse. You hold the cast on stitches on the needle in your left hand and the working wool and empty needle in your right hand, then you insert the needle into the first stitch, but this is done backwards, you go through the top, instead of from underneath, so you should hold both needles in an X shape with the right in front of the left, and the working wool in front of both. You then lift the working wool in between the two needles, wrapping it around the right needle. Then bring the right needle to the back, slipping it in between the original stitch and then slip the stitch of the left needle. You should now have one new stitch on the right needle. Repeat this for the rest of the row.

It is fairly easy to do. you take your knitting needle and instead of pushing it through the yarn so both needles are pointing in the same direction, you push the needle through from the top, so it's point is facing downwards. Then all you have to do it wrap the yarn around the needle once, catch the yarn with the needle and pull it through the space created by the loop or yarn, and pull the stitch over the top of the other needle. It's sort of like the regular stitch in reverse. Hope i helped!

Bring the yarn in front and pick up the front part of the stich. It's awkward and I recommend to turn it and work from the back.

to knit a purl stitch you would either twist the stitch ( actually take off and turn it around) or knit it from the back
