Hi-- I thought I remembered having a recipe made with GrapeNuts cereal for Fat-free Apple Pie. I couldn't find mine, but I did a search for you & found this: 2 cups Grape Nuts

1/2 cup apple juice concentrate

mix together and press into the pie pan. Bake 10 minutes at 350 degrees and

cool if you'll add a cool filling. For pumpkin pie, I just add the filling

and bake it all at once.

I run the Grape Nuts through the food processor first, and I find a half

recipe is sufficient if you don't need the crust to go too far up the side

of the pan.

kwvegan vegan If you want to make it healthier, I'd suggest not using the concentrate & juice 1 or 2 small organic apples. I recall that the one I had put the Grapenuts on top of the crust, like a crumble topping. I just stumbled upon your question while Surfing for something else, so I hope this helped! --SueBee :-)B

Olive oil, butter, mayonnaise or for low fat 2T each applesauce, yoghurt and cold water with 1 cup flour or for vegan margarine. To have a flaky crust when replacing shortening, add a small amount of baking powder - or a little vinegar and baking soda. Make sure all ingredients are super cold when they go into the oven. In a pinch there are some creative ideas if you lack typical pie crust ingredients: 1) Cut off the crust of white bread, break into small pieces, drizzle with melted apricot jam and press into pie pan; bake for 8 minutes at 350 degrees before adding fruit center. 2) Cold pies the traditional graham cracker crust, but mix with a small amount of softened cream cheese or melted chocolate or maple syrup - or if baked with egg whites 3) Pancake flour or Bisquick or Jiffy Mix have oils in them and can be used with milk or water - better if a small amount of butter/margarine is added, to make a cakey crust. Be creative!!! nuts, peanut butter, condensed milk, ground date/raisin, marshmallows, cheddar cheese, cottage cheese, eggs, jams, pumpkin, sweet potato, frozen juices (pear is great), can be mixed with a variety of things from oats, breakfast cereal, crackers, cooked rice, coconut, bread crumbs, sesame seeds, whole wheat flour, grated carrots or zucchini etc to make unique crusts for a variety of pie fillings savory to sweet.
