How do you measure 4 liters of water using 8 liters and 5 liters?
Assuming you have a separate container to hold the 4 litres... Fill the 5 litre and empty it into the 8 litre. Repeat - and retain the 2 litres you have left when the 8 litre is full - pour that into the 'spare' container. Empty the 8 litres out and repeat the process again - you should now have 4 litres in your spare container.

You have two sauce pans one holds 4 liters and the other 3 Using only these two receptacles how can you measure exactly two liters of water?
Fill the 4 liter with water and empty into the 3 liter, leaving one liter in the 4 liter receptacle. Dump the 3 liter water, and pour the remaining one liter from the 4 liter into the 3 liter. Fill the four liter and dump into 3 liter until full. You now have added two liters to the 3 liter receptacle and 2 liters remain in the 4 liter receptacle. Read More

If you are attempting to measure the volume of the liquid you would use pints, quarts or gallons if using the English measuring system, or liters (and components thereof) if using the metric system. If measuring the weight, you would use pounds or kilograms (or derivatives thereof). If attempting to measure viscosity, you would measure in seconds through a cup (typically #2 Zahn or #4 Ford). It all depends upon what aspect you are measuring… Read More

The second way is to either add 1 liter to the 3 liter bottle, or remove 1 liter from the 5 liter bottle, which would also give you 4 liters. Read More
