I think you mean 'alternating' current ('alternative' means choice). The ammeter must be inserted in series with the load, just as with direct current.

Why is voltmeter is connected in parallel and ammeter in series?

Because its function is to measure the current, i.e. the amount of electrical flow in the circuit, and this require that the current flows through the ammeter A good ammeter has very low series resistance, so connecting it in series will not affect your circuit. Be careful when using an ammeter , because of its very low resistance , it can cause a short circuit if you use it by mistake to measure "voltage", so avoid connecting it in Parallel.

How do you measure the current through a circuit without intercepting the supply?

Add an ammeter in parralel with the circuit. An ammeter in parallel with a circuit to be measured will not measure any current. In fact, placing an ammeter in parallel will cause a short. The ammeter must be placed in series with the circuit to be measured. It should be noted that this technique only allows for small magnitudes of current to be measured. One should not try to measure more than 10 amps using this method. However, this is not the goal of the question asked. I am not 100% sure what "intercepting the supply" means but I think the person asking the question means without breaking the circuit? In this case one could use a clamp on ammeter. There are several varieties that can measure low currents and there are those that can measure 100s of amps.

How do you measure electrical current?

Electric current is measured using an instrument called an ammeter. The SI unit of measurement for current is the ampere, which is defined in terms of the force between parallel, current-carrying, conductors due to the interaction of their magnetic fields.

How do you measure the resistance of a motor?

we can measure the resistance of the motor by using voltmeter ammeter method of by directly using a multimeter across the armature terminals of the motor in voltmeter ammeter method we should use a less value of dc voltage to find the resistance

Why current cannot be measured directly using an oscilloscope?

A standard oscilloscope is designed to measure voltage, you need a current probe for your oscilloscope to measure current.

Do You measure current across a circuit?

A current flows through, not across, a circuit. And, yes, you can measure it using an ammeter.

How to measure current?

Current in a circuit can be measured by using a device called ammeter that is always connected in series in the circuit in which current is to be measured.

How do you measure voltage using a ammeter?

An ammeter measures amperage not voltage.

The unit of current?

you can measure the unit of a current in amps (A) we measure the current using a ammeter

What do you use to measure an electric current?

An ammeter, either shunt or inductive. A shunt is an inline resistor of a small, known resistance. Knowing the resistance and the voltage one can calculate the amperage by Ohms law, I=V/R. An inductive, or clamp on ammeter measures the magnetic field and using more complex calculations displays the current, typically on a digital display.

List two important things to remember when using an ammeter?

Make sure it is placed in the circut series so you can measure the electrical current at a specific point.

What does the size of a current depend upon?

One way to determine current is to measure it, with an ammeter. Another way is to calculate it using Ohm's law: current = voltage / resistance.

What happens when an ammeter is connected in parallel with a circuit?

SMOKE!!! Yiii-haaaa! An ammeter is always as low a resistance as possible. That way, the current that you measure in a circuit using the meter will be the same as if the meter were not there. So putting an ammeter in parallel with a circuit means that you just short circuited the circuit you were intending to measure. Poof! There goes your ammeter! An ammeter has a very low internal resistance. So, if it is connected in parallel with a load, it will short-out that load. The resulting high current flowing through the ammeter may severely damage the meter (and possible harm the user), although most are fitted with fuses to protect them.
