On your 1997 Mercury Mountaineer : Open the rear doors from the outside and on the end of the doors near the latch you will see a small lever that is used to select child locks on or off
Look at the diagram on the fuse box cover. It will answer both questions.
go to the dealer with your VIN and proof of ownwership they give it to you...
with a large pear of channel locks,or a caliper compressor
they make a special tool - like the one used to disconnect a high pressure fuel line
There is no way to do this. There are child-proof locks on the sliding doors.
If locks have also stopped locking automatically, then you will have to change the brake switch located on the brake pedal. Go to a local auto shop and pick one up. It is easy to replace. Just look how the original is mounted, it is not too complicated.
The little red and silver three number combos come from factory set at 0-0-0
are they the factory locks?? if so it could bea vaccum line it operates on vaccum lines. or it could be the ground.
A speacial tool is needed to release both of the locks at the bottom of the Oem Hu's.. Its that only 2 locks that's holding the Hu's.

put the key in the ignition and turn to the start position just before you actually crank over the motor (you don't want to be cranking the motor) click back and forth from off to start position several times....you will hear the door locks click to let you know you have completed the programming. that's it
