I would not install a smoke alarm, in the kitchen.
Any type of smoke, steam or particles denser than air will set off a smoke alarm. This means that smoke emitted from the incense will set off a smoke alarm when in range of the detector.
There is a removable cover in the dash on the driver's side. It is in the section that is hidden when the door is closed.There is a small notch used to open it.

Actually steam can set it off. According to the USFA website, you should not mount a smoke alarm within 3 feet of a bathroom or kitchen to avoid this possibility. If same as later models then open drivers door, remove fuse box cover on end of dashboard (where dashboard meets door) remove alarm fuse, diagram on cover will tell which one...hope this helps.
