A couple of options exist, first, there is a key hole, although it doesn't look like a typical automotive keyhole, it is round, similar to the door keyhole and is located near the license plate. Secondly, check to see if the circuit breaker has tripped, or the fuse has blown. This seems as the most likely culprit since both device fail to open your trunk.

There is a button in the glove compartment that disables the remote releases for the trunk. I would check there first.

Remove the plastic cover from the emergency trunk lock (to the left of the release button) and then use the Key blade from the remote key fob by holding the button on the side and pulling it out.. Then use this key in the mechanical lock to open the trunk.

1998 jaguar xj8 Remote Program Instructions you need to open your trunk, turn ignition only to 2nd notch (do not start) toggle your valet switch 4-5 times till you hear a chirp (this indicates the vehicle is now in learn mode) Hold your remote button till lights flash and car will chirp once more to let you know remote has been set.

Press the button with a picture of a car with the trunk open. It is located on the drivers door near the map pocket. Or you press the button on your remote key.

User Avatar

The remote trunk release was optional. If it is there, you will find a yellow button inside the glove box.

User Avatar

If you haven't already done this, try holding the trunk release button down for a few seconds on your remote. Toyota set it up this way so that you don't accidentally open the trunk when you mean to lock the doors. There is also a button inside the glovebox that will disable or enable that function. try pressing it and then use the remote.

User Avatar

You use the release button on the dash, or the keyless remote to open,

Check for obstructions in trunk lid latch, or lose hardware. If not that, check for objects pressing on release button in glove box or possible lose wire contacts on button. If not that, then you may be pressing on remote release button in your pocket while driving car. Leave remote at home and see if it still opens. Could be bad contact in remote control button.

User Avatar

On the driver's door, push and hold the DOOR UNLOCK button until you hear the trunk lid release.

User Avatar

Check for a valet switch in glove compartment, not sure if it should be "on" or "off" , I believe it should be "off". But switch it to see if that works.

User Avatar

The only answer to that is to not touch the remote release button. If it is in a place where you accidentally touch it all the time get one of those litle lids from a wd40 can ( or something like it ) and cover the switch. A piece of tape will hold it down from one side, and you can just flip it up to use the button.

User Avatar

there is a recall on that car for that same problem. but hold the button on the remote while pulling up the lid

User Avatar

There isn't a release button inside the car. Just push on the key hole button on the truck to release. If this doesn't work your trunk is locked. Use the remote to unlock - press twice. paW

User Avatar

On your keyless entry remote hold down the panic button and trunk button at the same time till the remote light flashes. Then the "beep beep" of the alarm will sound when locking and unlocking your car.
