Space cannot be deleted. Space can only be filled.
The only way to do that is if you upgrade it to a brand new one. Brand new ones don't cost to much but a fair bit they don't cost over 2000$ maybe like 90-250$ max.
Free up some space on your harddrive. If that doesn't work, consider investing in a graphics card.
As with most console games - the systems have a limited amount of HD (harddrive space) and you must free up space if the system is too full. This is the most common reason a game will not save properly on a next-gen system.
Sounds like you either purchased a used PS3 with a smaller harddrive or you spent the past week downloading everything you saw. Clean it up in any case. If you have a PS3 slim they is no reason for your harddrive to be full so soon and it is not hard to delete unneeded and unwanted videos and Game Demos. Photos do not use much space, but do not duplicate and triplicate you file saves You can create some free space on the HDD,
If by "Cleaning up" you mean "deleting data" then space Will free up.Defragging or "Checking Disk" will not create free space.
You are going to have to free up some space on your hard drive. You have too small of a hard drive for the programs installed. Start removing programs you don't need. Next start removing videos & photos. Keep removing stuff until you get around 12-15% free space. Also def ragging in safe mode will help.

When you are completely free of the earth's atmosphere (about 25 miles up) you are in space.
There are numerous options for free online storage space. Sites like Google Drive offer up to 5 GB's for free . The site bitcasa offers up to 10 GB's for free. Windows SkyDrive offers up to 7 GB's for free.
The benefits is.... it will free up space. The dangers are... You will be more bored, you will loose your saved games. you will not be able to activate the game on any other computer exept maybe one, depends on your lisence for the copy and will render it useless, and in the very very very rare cases it could crash your system or burn up a harddrive.
No. You need to do it manually.
To free up space delete things you no longer need. If you need space buy a bigger HDD. To improve speed buy RAM and a GREAT graphics card to keep you computer up to speed.
