How do you perform a seance?

First you need to have an experienced Medium present just in case things go arye during the seance.

The Medium will know what to do and how to handle the situation. Expect the unexpected but try to set a few guidelines in advance if you can to ensure a pleasurable experience for everyone.

Make sure to cleanse the area with sage or sweetgrass, or some other form of ritual cleansing.

Make sure you've eliminated potential distraction.

Your guests may wish to bring an object, this is fine.

Steps:

1.) Plan your guest list

- figure out how many people will be present, and make sure to have plenty of room for you guests.

- Also, make sure everyone is open-minded, people who are adamantly non-believers will bring an air of negative energy to the room and this can be disruptive. This may also adversely effect your communication with the spirits during the seance.

2.) Create a friendly atmosphere for the spirits

- You can light candles, incense, or anything else that may be spirit friendly.

- the cloth for the table should be light colors, but it's a matter of personal preference, so if you want to go with dark colors, go for it.

3.) Use common Sense

- help everyone get comfortable, make sure the guests will be respectful to each other as well as the spirits, turn off cell phones, make sure everyone has used the bathroom or had a smoke,

- spirit activity can, and usually does influence the levels of hot and cold in a room, so set the thermostat to a comfortable temperature

- Once everyone is seated, do a short guided meditation, offering a prayer, or casting a protective circle based on your religious orientation.

4.) During the Seance

- Many people like to hold hands, this is not a necessity, but if people would like to, it's okay.

- The medium of the group should ask the spirits to come forward and join the group, do not force the entities to appear, you don't like it when people command you, don't do it to the spirits.

- If there is a spirit you'd like to contact, (for example your Uncle Joe) then politely ask them to step forward so the medium can interpret what is being said.

5.) Questioning

- as long as spirits are willing you can questions, and receive answers, bear in mind though that spirits will respond in different ways from tapping, to talking, a soft breeze or even a loud thump.

- Occasionally a spirit will talk through another person, especially when there are a lot of gifted people in the group, this is normal so don't worry about it.

6.) Unwanted Entities

- like an elephant in the room, sometimes there will be negative entities that will appear. In these cases, when you have a spirit that is malevolent or mischievous, someone needs to let them know they are unwelcome.

Typically, this will be the medium who is leading the seance, who will usually say something.

7.) Close the Door

- when you are done, it is important to thank the spirits for coming.

- Make sure the spiritual gateway you created is closed, usually the medium will take care of this.

- If anyone has slipped into a trance like state or sleep like state, allow them to return gradually, DO NOT SHAKE THEM AWAKE! Chances are they will have a message for someone in the group when they return from their journey.

8.) Close the seance

- Tell the spirits farewell, thank them, ask them to move along.

- You may want to offer a small blessing or prayer, but remember, some spirits like to hang around until the seance is officially finished. If they do, it's alright, they are probably just curious.
