Not at all, you not only have to buy expansions, but you have to pay for it monthly and there are extra things that you can buy for in-game play. The expansions cost anywhere from 40-60 dollars and there is a blizzard store, plus you pay 15.00 monthly if you want to continue to play.

∙ 12y agoThe World of Warcraft free trial is a trial edition of WoW (Called the Starter Edition). It includes the ability to play until level 20 at which time you either pay for an upgrade to the full game, or you can start another character, or just run around killing mobs.
Other features of the free trial:
- No time limits. You can use it for however long you want, you just can not go past 20.
- Limit of 10 gold on any one character. They are letting you have this much so that you may purchase a mount and the riding skill to use it.
- Not allowed to speak on public chat channels. This means no trade chat, no general chat.
- Not allowed to whisper other players, unless they whisper you first, or you are on their friends list.
- Not allowed to form groups.
- Not allowed to use the Auction House, mailbox, or trade via person-to-person trade.
- No Real-ID features available.
- No Voice Chat features.

∙ 11y agoFirst you have to sign up for a free Battle.net account. This allows you access to Battle.net and the free trials that are available.
In the account management page, there should be an option to add a World of Warcraft trial to you account. Choose this. Download the game (it is BIG). Log in and start playing.
