funny thing mine inst even on after i changed the water pump, u will have to remove the fan then lower the shroud and fan at the same time and put ur 4 bolts back into the shroud.
Drain the radiator on the 1988 Cavalier. Take of the water pump belt. If the fan and shroud are in the way then remove them. unbolt and remove the pump. Bolt up the new pump and put the belt back on. Put the shroud and fan on if they were removed. Fill the radiator back up.
Remove the fan shroud-to-radiator retaining bolts
With the rad. shroud off, you will have to use something to hold down the clutch and crack the bolts. There are 2 8mm bolts holding the shroud on. The lower rad hose goes over part of the shroud, I broke the tip off on mine, but it's no big deal. The clutch fan bolt turns counter clockwise. It's easier to leave the fan attached to the clutch when you remove, and then put the fan on the new clutch while it's out.
First, the neg. battery cable should be removed from the battery, the appropriate belts should be removed, the rad should be drained to at least as low as the bottom of the water pump's lowest point, and the top rad hose should be removed. Then the fan shroud bolts should be removed. The fan and clutch should be attached to the water pump hub by a large threaded nut. If the fan clutch itself needs to be dissassembled, or if the water pump pulley bolts can't be accessed with the fan present, then wedge a prybar or long screwdriver between the pulley bolts to prevent the fan turning and, using the appropriate size wrench, turn the large nut counterclockwise to loosen and remove it. If the water pump pulley bolts can be accessed then remove them and pull out the fan assembly and the fan shroud together. Installation is the reverse of removal. Don't forget to put the shroud and fan back in together.
The schematic should be on the fan shroud. If not find a like car and draw a schematic. If the belt came off by itself, there may be something out of line and you may have to take it to a garage.
It took me about 1.5 hours to do. I have a 92 pathfinder 4 x 4. I first took a little coolant out of the radiator so I could remove the upper radiator hose. With the hose removed I took out the fan shroud. After that you will remove four bolts that hold the fan clutch to the water pump. Remove the fan off of the fan clutch and put on the new fan clutch. Put everything back together in reverse order.
I am in the process of replacing all the drivebelts on my 1991 Toyota 4x4 pickup 3.0 liter with AC & PS. In order to remove the belts, I had to first remove the radiator hose which effectively blocks easy removal of the fan and fan shroud. Then I had to remove the fan and fan shroud. Fortunately, the power steering belt is the first (front of vehicle) in the series of three drivebelts (power steering, AC, & water pump/alternator), so you won't have to remove any of the others to get to it. I didn't have to remove the belt, since it did the job for me (which is why I am doing this in the first place). But I did clean up the gunk on the pulleys a bit. So now, I just have to put the new belt on, and replace the fan, fan shroud, and radiator hose. We'll see how that goes. -mudmaid
Sure as long as the shroud is designed for the A5. try Tippmannparts.com specialopspaintball.com or opsgear.com
I assume you are talking about the engine fan, not the electric rad fan. This is an easy fix. I did it myself about a month ago. The problem is with the "viscus fan clutch" it is the hub of the fan that has all the little fins on it. The fan blades bolt to it and it screws onto the end of the crank shaft. Anyway, get a new viscus fan clutch and a 36mm wrench or big crescent wrench. follow these steps. 1. take off the upper fan shroud 2. put the wrench on the nut that is between the fan and the engine. the shaft will turn but has some resistance from the engine and the other belt driven accessories. So the easiest way to loosen it is to hit the end of your wrench with a hammer. Hit it to the left it is a standard thread nut. you may have to hit it a couple of times and reposition the wrench but keep going it will come. 3. once the fan blade and clutch are off just unbolt the blades from the old clutch and bolt them on the new one. 4. screw the new clutch back onto the end of the crank shaft. and again use the hammer and give it a few whacks to the right to make sure it is tight. 5. put the fan shroud back on. 6. have a beer, your done!
Drain the radiator. Remove the pump belt, fan, and fan shroud. Unbolt the pump then remove it. Bolt the new pump on, and install the fan an shroud. Put the belt on and refill the radiator with fresh coolant.
The Radiator does not have to be removed, Just the fan shroud, then the fan and fan clutch assembly. When taking off the water pump it is very important to label where each bolt goes. If you put the wrong bolt in the wrong hole it will break the cam-shaft gear.
Take belt off water pump pulley remove fan from pump (4 bolts) remove old clutch from fan install new with same bolts Put fan back on.
