Pull the codes from the computer with a scanner, match the code to the troubleshooting procedure, follow the procedure to find the source. Repair the source, light will go out if that was the only problem. There are "monitors" or self test the computer runs the car through, if a problem occurs, it may not run all of the self tests until that problem is taken care. Therefore, another problem may exist.

Depending on where you live, you can pull into any AutoZone store. They will read the codes from any OBDC2-compatible car, FOR FREE.

You may think there is nothing wrong but there is. If the check engine light is on there will be codes stored in the ECM. Have the codes read. The codes will help you determine what the cause is.

If you can not read codes with a scanner you have a wiring problem.
