This is pretty basic. Raise the car and block carefully. Remove the oil pan drain plug to drain the oil. Remove the bolts holding the pan onto the car. You will probably have to pry the pan away from the engine with a screwdriver or a putty knife. Installation is the reverse, only you will want to thoroughly clean all mating surfaces and replace the pan gasket. You will probably need some gasket sealer.
Remember to replace the drain plug and fill with oil
Its easier to access it from the top than the bottom!

The 1999 Pontiac sun fire oil sending unit is located in the bottom of the engine. You will need to remove the oil pan in order to view the oil sending unit.

The oil dipstick is built into the oil filler cap. Unscrew the cap, pull the dipstick out, wipe it dry and reinsert it. Remove it again to read the oil level.
Not an easy job as you need engine holding fixtures etc. Get a manual from the parts store or DISCOUNTAUTOREPAIRMANUALS.COM
Try under the oil cap, oddly enough.
i find it best from the top because laying under your car dosent give much space or movement
3.8 litres from a 4.4 litre jug of 5w30.. that is for a 2.2 litre 97 Pontiac Sunfire. My boyfriend just changed the oil on my car... and this is what he figured out.

5 quarts or 4.8 liters of motor oil
The oil pump is located inside the oil pan. When you remove the oil pan the pump will be bolted to the engine block inside the oil pan.
On the 2.2L(2200), the oilstick is built in as part of the cap that you would remove if you were putting oil in the car. This cap is located on the side of the motor, right behind the radiator.
On the oil pan near the top. Under the engine. About middle of the car.
