You probably shouldn't even think of doing this job. The heater core is located under the dash on the passenger's side. It is in the same case as the A/C Evaporator core. To remove this unit requires dropping of the steering column and COMPLETELY disassembling the entire dash right down to the firewall. This includes disconnecting all electrical connections, vaccuum lines, antenna connection, etc. I have done this job to replace the A/C evaporator core and would not recommend it unless you have a lot of patience, are very mechanically inclined and make all kinds of notes so you can reverse the procedure to put it all back together. My buddies all thought I was nuts to even attempt this job and they were probably right. even though the job turned out successful and saved me quite a bit of money. There is an added danger if you have a passenger side air bag. GOOD LUCK

Additional Information: I agree with the above answer. I have received quotes from reputable places to do this work that run close to $1400.00 most of which is labor. Since you're talking about a 13-14 yr old vehicle you might want to wait til summer (assuming that your AC works) and trade up to something else.

Usually at the firewall either at the center or at the passenger side - follow the heater water lines

The heater core is located inside the plenum box and is accessible only by removing the dash and removing the plenum box. It is a time consuming and challenging repair. You need to make sure that the core is leaking(antifreeze odor, puddle on passenger side floor) before attempting to replace the core.

The problem might be with the air flow through the core rather than the core itself. The GC has a common fail mode with the blend doors that divert air through the core. Check heatertreater.net for a full explanation of the operation of the system, videos, and a fix if you determine that the blend doors are non-functional.

The heater core is behind the dashboard on the passenger side. If you are not familiar with this job, I would simply advise you hire a mechanic. If the Jeep has A/C you must have it discharged at a shop. Then, you have to remove the steering wheel and dashboard entirely. Drain the coolant from the radiator. Disconnect the coolant lines from the heater core. If A/C, disconnect the A/C lines from the evaporator. Once all this is done you can remove the housing that houses the heater core and take it apart so you can get to the heater core and replace it. This is a job that even most mechanics don't want to do. If you absolutely must do it yourself, get a book on it or get a subscription to alldata.com for your vehicle beforehand. Also you MUST have the A/C discharged by a professional. Do not attempt it yourself. It's extremely dangerous!
