It probably is the compressor that is locked up. If it is ok until the a/c is turned on, the compressor is locked up. If it is just the pulley bearing a special puller is required to remove the pulley and bearing.
AnswerI would take the AC pulley off completely and replace the belt with one for a blazer that doesn't have AC.It's called a bypass pulley that you need to run your belt hun!it will run your truck, but will not affect your defrost or heat. you will not have a/c until you replace that air compressor!hope this helps, oh and the bypass pulley is only around 45 bucks! All I need to figure out what to do is the a/c lines and how that works!good luck to you!
The idler pulley is located just under the A/C compressor. There is a bolts in the middle of the pulley that needs to be removed and the idler pulley can be removed. Sometimes these bolts stick and my need to be pryed off. You may also want to removed the radiator fans cow to give you some extra room.
Check the belt and pulleys. Make sure the AC pulley turns. When the AC is turned on, the clutch should engage to the pulley and the AC compressor should turn, and yes, it can cause the engine to vibrate a little. If the clutch doesn't try to engage, there could be some problems with the AC, but first try to find out what caused the noise, and determine if the AC compressor is turning.
If you're referring to the 4.0 I-6, there is an idler pulley located directly under the air conditioning compressor pulley. However, tension is adjusted through the power steering pump. You will have to loosen the two bolts behind the power steering pump, two or three bolts which attach to the power steering bracket, as well as the one under the front of the pulley. There is also another bolt under the driver's side of the power steering pump. This one actually controls the belt tension.
There is a large metric bolt right (17 or 18mm) in the center of the main crank pulley. Immobilize the crank using a vise-grip equiped with a locking chain. Wrap an old fan belt (cut-to-size) around the crank and protect the serpentine gooves of the crank pulley, then wrap the vise chain and clamp onto the crank. Use a good breaker bar, or impact hammer to break the bolt torque free counter-clockwise. Note: Don't remove the four 10mm bolts on the crank pulley. The whole thing comes off as one assemble piece.
yess
Yes, UNLESS the belt pulley is frozen and doesn't revolve (i.e.: freewheel) easily. If the compressor simply does not work properly, or is out of Freon the activation switch will not turn it on.
Google Pontiac boneville ac compressor bypass pulley. There are a few places that sell a replacement pulley that goes in the spot of the compressor that allows use of the original serpentine belt.
increase drive pulley size
yes you can, just go buy an ac bypass pulley, pull your compressor, and put pulley in its place
remove compressor put a bypass pulley in its place replace belt
A clutch for an automotive air conditioning compressor is composed of three parts. the magnetic coil the pulley the hub the magnetic coil is mounted on the front of the compressor and nestles closely insid the pulley. the Pulley is mounted on the bearing mount extension of the compressor the hub is fastened to the end of the input shaft of the compressor. It normally sits slightly above the surface of the pulley When current is introduced into the coil, the coil becomes magnetic. Then the magnetism is transferred into the pulley and it pulls the hub down to engagement.
You remove the ac compressor and install a pulley bypass kit from a part store. You remove the ac compressor and install a pulley bypass kit from a part store.
The idler pulley is between the alternator and the A/C compressor.
replace the a/c compressor by a pulley kit
It should be right on the front of the compressor - usually the clutch is inside the v-belt/serpentine pulley on the compressor
The A/C compressor is located on the bottom of passenger side of the engine. It is the unit between the crankshaft pulley and the idler pulley. It is driven by the serpentine accessory belt.
