turn the handle counter clockwise and remove the leather boot, screw on a new one. if using an oem shift knob the boot probably will not snap back on, and you'll need some kind of adapter to match the threads, usually a plastic insert secured by a hex screw.

First remove the shift knob pattern (it can be pried out with a small screw driver). Next remove the alignment pin with a pair of pliers. Then the shift knob can be unscrewed.
