At the base of the rod that is attached to the headrest, that slides into the top of seat, there is a small button (about the size of a fat flat-head screwdriver); push this in and lift. should come out that way.
There is no way for a consumer to remove. The manufact manual tells the deal how to remove but you have TWO 3 inch prongs sticking out. I am having a problem with this due to my car seats not fitting, but Jeep doesn't care. Its so frustrating!
There are two metal rods that hold the headrest in place. One of the rods has the height adjustment button on it. The other metal rod has a kind of hidden button that when pushed, will remove the head rest.

You can if you remove the rear drive shaft.
On my 2000 grand cherokee, It was in front of the battery on the fender wall. Remove battery and you should find it. It is under the bumper cover, under the passenger head light. You either have to remove the front bumper, or you remove the headlight and cut an access hole.
You have to remove the differntial covers to drain the fluid.
