How do you change a belt on a 1992 Saturn?

The best way to change the belt on a '92 Saturn is to remove the front passenger wheel and then remove the plastic wheel well to gain access to the belt tensioner. Use a long ratchet to hold the tensioner while you remove the belt from one of the pulleys. Then you should be able to pull the belt all the way out.

92 Plymouth caravan serpentine belt replacement?

How do you replace the belt tensioner on a 92 Saturn sl1?

Jack up the car and remove the tire from the passenger side of the car. Remove the plastic inner splash guards to expose the tensioner. Put a wrench on the nut that holds the pulley on and push it clockwise to remove tension on the serpentine belt. While doing this, pull the serpentine belt off to remove pressure on the tensioner. Once you have completed this task, you will need a 10mm socket; I suggest using an black impact socket; I broke 3 regular sockets and then finally bought a set of good sockets at Sears $30. for a set of 10. Remove the 2 nuts, replace the tensioner and then replace the belt the same way you removed it. The hardest part is removing the 2 nuts on the tensioner; they are extremely tight. Good luck. If you need more details, ask and I will update this message. Regards, Damian

How do you release tension on belt 92 gmc truck?

There is a spring loaded belt tensioner with a pulley located below the alternator. You will need a 3/8 drive ratchet or breaker bar(breaker bar gives you more leverage). Insert the breaker bar into the square hole on tensioner and push down or counterclockwise and remove belt. If tensioner does not spring back spray it with lubricant and work it back and forth-they stick sometimes.

How do you replace a tension pulley on a Lincoln 92 town car?

Although I am not familiar with your '92 Lincoln, the answer is pretty well generic to all vehicles. Assuming that new tension/idler pulley is available [in some cases, the entire tensioner arm assembly is sold as a single unit], its replacement is fairly simple. The tensioner arm assembly consists of an "arm," with an idler pulley on one end and a spring loaded pivot on the other end, which is mounted to the engine with a single bolt right through the center of the pivot. IF it is ONLY the idler pulley which requires replacement, then you do not have to remove the tension arm, and the following steps apply. 1. With a "breaker bar handle," and a socket which fits the pully bolt hex head, lever the tension arm just enough to allow removal of the serpentine belt from the idler pulley. This bolt ALSO mounts the idler pulley to the tension arm. Be VERY CAREFUL to draw an ACCURATE diagram of the belt routing over ALL pulleys. Then, if you use string to tie the belt away from the tensioner pulley assembly, BUT firmly attached to all the other pulleys, you can finish the job WITHOUT removing the belt entirely. The other option, if you are knowledgable, or have the guts, is to remove the belt entirely. 2. Then, using the same socket and breaker bar, on the same center mounting bolt in idler pulley, remove the bolt and the pulley. With a replacement pully being available, installation and reassembly is simply a matter of reversing this procedure. As the tension is pre-set, no adjustment is necessary. j3h.
